We’re Full Up — Sorta

Wow, how’s that for staggering? In roughly a day and a half, the guest list for BarCampLA-5 has been filled up. We are working on getting additional space in the building tho, so we might actually be able to accommodate more than the 200 folks. So if you’d still like to come to BarCampLA-5 on March 1st and 2nd at AOL Beverly Hills, you should still sign up on the registration form. We’ll be glad to drop y’all an email the second we get the good or bad news.

If we have to stay at the 200 person cap tho, we’ll be letting folks in if anyone on the current RSVP list drops out. Should that happen, you’ll be mailed to know you’re on the guest list.

Just a reminder, but if you’ve already signed up on the wiki, at Upcoming or on Facebook and haven’t gotten your name on the guest list already, you will go on the waiting list. We’re really sorry that we had to do things this way, but we needed to in order to get folks thru AOL campus security.

Also, if you decide that you can’t make it (or need to change the days you’re showing up) please mail us at rsvp [at] barcampla [dot] org so we can make the appropriate changes to our guest list. I’m sure the people who are clamoring to get in will thank you for freeing up a spot if your plans change.

More announcements are coming all thru the weekend, so keep your eyes on the blog!

@outofthelist: You know, we hate doing it. And yeah, Little Radio does rule. Quite honestly, we see it as our home.

Since Little Radio is doing renovations right now tho, they can’t handle a BarCamp while all of that is going down. If they could take us on, we’d be all over hosting another one there.

Seriously, sign up for one of the overflow slots if you already haven’t. We might be able to squeeze you in if you do…

Are you going with the first 200 who registered on the Google waiting list?

Currently, yeah — that’s what we’re doing. At least until we get word that we can let more than 200 people in. We’re really pushing for that, but we can’t make any promises.

If you registered on Upcoming, Facebook or the wiki before we tossed up the Google list and didn’t make it in, I’m sorry. Like you seriously don’t know how sorry I am. But it was either this or postpone BarCampLA.

It was a bit like “Sophie’s Choice” because I didn’t want to cap attendance or push the event back. Last time around we postponed BarCampLA and had a bunch of people who were not very thrilled with us. Some people had even bought tickets from the other side of the Atlantic to come to BCLA4’s original dates.

So when we lost our venue with a little more than a couple weeks left before the event, it was a matter of choosing a venue with a capped guest list or pushing everything back a month or more. We were going to upset people either way, but we both agreed that pushing everything back with only a couple weeks to go was probably the best decision.

Some of y’all might not agree with that. And I’ll be glad to discuss things with you personally via email or IM or in the blog comments here. I can be reached by mailing boogah [at] gmail [dot] com or on AIM by messaging boogahsmalls and I’ll be as straight up with you as I can possibly be.

With that being said, I’m really hopeful that we can let more than 200 folks into BarCampLA-5 next weekend — but like I said before, I can’t make any promises. Hopefully everyone understands why tho if we can’t.

I tried to register but my name didn’t show up on the list or on the waiting list and I didn’t get a email conformation. Please let me know what is happening with BarCampLA. THanks

@bruceb: The forms on Google Docs aren’t smart enough to send email confirmation. Maybe one day…

Also, the waiting list is exported by hand — and I didn’t manage to get to it until a few minutes ago. You appear to be on it and if a slot frees up (or AOL allows us to let more folks in) you should be golden.
