Spreading The Word

Badges? Hey, we actually need some stinking badges! So I guess it’s a good thing our very own Crystal Williams has cooked up some awesome ones for your site then, isn’t it?

So if you’ve got a site and you’re coming to BarCamp LA this time around, plaster them all over your sites with a link to the wiki page for the event. Or maybe you could just put one in your sidebar in a sensible location instead. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible on everyone by including code snippets for the badges under each one, so feel free to steal our bandwidth and hotlink away if you need to.

Blogging about us would be awesome too, but I won’t pressure any of y’all into doing that if you aren’t feeling it. We just need to get the word out a bit more — and you lot are the ones who can make that sort of thing happen!

Sneak Peek: BarCampLA-4 T-Shirts

Psst… Want to see what the new BarCamp LA t-shirts are going to look like? Of course you do. Well here, have a peek then…

BarCampLA-4 Shirts

BarCamper Darren Wong did a marvelous job whipping up the lovely new logo, which has found its way onto some blog badges that will be posted shortly after this entry. Anyhow, come early enough to claim one of these free puppies — because I’m sure they’ll get snatched up pretty quickly.

BarCampLA-4 – We need You!

Friends, Romans, BarCampers, lend me ur earz….

Hi folks, BarCampLA-4 is coming up soon (November 3-4) and we are looking to officially get this party started.

Volunteers
In order to get this thing rolling, we need some awesome dedicated volunteers to bite off chunks of this and roll with it for the next six weeks. Here’s what needs to get done:

  • Sponsorships and General Accounting
    Crystal Williams and Jason Cosper
  • Wi-fi Ninjary and Network Ops
    Dan Tentler
  • Food
(This includes drinks, breakfast, lunches, and dinner Saturday night. This job can be divided)
    Open
  • Ministry of Information
(Get the word out! Get us into top blogs, Heck, get us in the LA Times)
    Open
  • Wiki Farming
(this is more work than it sounds like. not hard, but requires some daily attention)
    Open
  • Graphics
(We need blog badges, promo graphics, t-shirts, name tags, and signage designed)
    Open
  • T-Shirts
    Open
  • Utility Players
We will also need help on the days of the event, setting up, getting food put out, making sure the trash doesn’t overflow, nothing catches fire that wasn’t meant to, minor cleaning etc. Ideally, these duties will assigned in shifts so you can still enjoy the camp. We do need people to be dead-on reliable and have initiative in order to take on these duties, so please don’t sign up unless you mean it.

If you are interested in any of the above, go add yourself to the wiki at www.barcamp.org/BarCampLA-4 (We’ll clean up www.barcamp.org/BarCampLA-4Planning shortly and keep this discussion off the main page)

Sponsors

In the grand tradition of BarCamp, we are trying to keep sponsor levels low. This is great because it means that no one “owns” BarCamp and we get to keep the great community vibe. This also means, though, that we need LOTS of sponsors in order to make this an awesome free event for the community. Our total budget is around $4k (complete details will be available on the wiki at http://www.barcamp.org/BarCampLA-4Planning soon), so please consider pitching in.

Levels
$100 – Party Sponsor - Help us out by bringing a keg, or cookies, or something of the sort and we’ll name you and thank you specifically for the beer or cookies (or whatever fun thing you can think of to bring). We’ll also include a link to you on the wiki and wherever we blog about the event.

$250 – Sponsor – Cash or the rough equivalent in goods (preferred). We’ll give you shout-outs at the event and link love online and give your logo a spot on the Wall O’ Sponsor Love at the event. You can also bring swag if you’ve got it.

$500 – Sponsor ++ – Same as the $250 level, but we’ll also include your logo on the t-shirts and give you some preferential placement on the Sponsor Wall.

These are rough guidelines. If you’ve got something different in mind, we’re all ears. If you’re interested in sponsoring, send an email to sponsors@barcampla.org .

Register
So, folks, now’s the time to start brushing off your talks and get your name up on the wiki http://www.barcamp.org/BarCampLA-4 (and on Upcoming.yahoo.com, please – http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/209263/).

We’ll be sending out event information and reminders to the barcampla googlegroup list, so if you know anyone who’s coming who isn’t on this list, please get them to subscribe. If you/they don’t want the commitment of the email list, you/they can also send an email to barcamplosangeles@gmail.com and we’ll send *just* the crucial updates from there.

Keep checking the blog here for updates. Also, did you know you can get a shortcut to the wiki (cause really, who gets the CamelCase right on the first try?) at http://wiki.barcampla.org?

And if you’re not already, follow us on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/barcampla

See you all soon!
